How the Sol-Ark VPP Program Works

During an event, your battery will discharge some of its stored energy to help stabilize the grid when electricity demand is at its highest

Key Details:

  • Enroll using the mobile MySolArk V2 app.
  • You must have a Sol-Ark inverter paired with a battery storage system, connected to a photovoltaic (PV) system and enrolled in LUMA’s Net Energy Metering Program.
  • To participate, your system must remain connected to the internet so Sol-Ark can  communicate with the Sol-Ark inverter.
    • Sol-Ark Residential Inverters:
      • 5K-2P-N, 8K-2P-N, 12K-2P-N, 15K-2P-LV, 18K-2P-LV
    • Sol-Ark Commercial Inverters:
      • 30K-3P-208V, 60K-3P-480V
  • Off-grid systems are not eligible.

  • Your system cannot be enrolled with more than one aggregator at a time.

  • Your system will receive $1 per kWh based on the battery’s performance during an event.

  • Payments will be accrued quarterly and deposited directly to your bank account by Bill.com, our third-party web payment service.

  • Systems with larger inverters, greater battery-storage capacity, and more frequent participation have the potential to earn more.

  • Once you have been enrolled, your system participates automatically without requiring any action from you.

  • Your system maintains backup protection for your home - you specify its reserve capacity.

  • You can opt out of events and unenroll from the program at any time.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Dispatch Events typically use only a portion of your battery’s stored energy. The default backup reserve is 20%, but you can adjust the reserve level to meet your household’s backup power needs.

Events may occur any day of the year, excluding holidays, typically during April–December. Events typically occur from 19:00 to 23:00, but events can happen at any time. Expect as many as 65-75 events per year. Events are not scheduled when there is a storm warning or storm advisory.

No. Once enrolled, your Sol-Ark system manages participation automatically.

You can opt out of events, but the incentive paid will be affected. You can request to withdraw your system from the program at any time by contacting Sol-Ark. Once enrolled in the program, you will remain in the program until you provide notice to Sol-Ark that you would like to be removed from the program.

Note: The Program may be terminated at any time as a result of changes in the law or as per order from the Energy Bureau or other Governmental Authority with jurisdiction, in which case the Program End Date would be the effective date of such early termination.

The amount of power you supply will depend on the size of your inverter system, the storage capacity of your batteries, and the battery reserve you control.

Sol-Ark will display a message in the MySolArk Monitoring v2 app's Alerts screen when an event is scheduled and automatically dispatch stored energy from your battery to the grid during the event.

Payment will be made approximately 60-90 days after the end of each calendar quarter and be deposited to the bank account you specified during enrollment.

You shouldn’t notice any difference in your home’s power supply during an Event.

No. Your system needs to have battery storage and be registered in LUMA’s Net Energy Metering Program.

Yes. If Sol-Ark cannot communicate with your energy storage system, or if your energy storage system cannot discharge when needed (due to a maintenance issue), the incentive paid will be affected.

No. Participation in the program does not impact Sol-Ark equipment warranties.
